2024 Toronto Theatre Awards Announcement

TORONTO, ON – The Toronto Theatre Awards are proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Toronto Theatre Awards. The recipients were chosen from ballots cast from the voting members of the Toronto Theatre Awards and are meant to represent the Toronto theatre going audience as a whole.
Leading the way in the musical theatre category, is the Crow's Theatre and Musical Stage Company's co-production of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, which received 7 awards, including Outstanding Production of a Musical, as well as awards for its leads, Evan Buliung and Hailey Gillis.
Canadian Stage's production of The Inheritance (Parts 1 & 2) lead all plays, also receiving 7 awards, including Outstanding Production of a Play. Outstanding Performance of a Male or Non-Binary Role in a Play went to The Inheritance's Qasim Khan, while Outstanding Performance of a Female or Non-Binary Role in a Play went to Akosua Amo-Adem for her performance in Three Sisters, a co-production by Soulpepper and Obsidian Theatre Company.
Special Recognition is bestowed upon productions, performances, works or achievements, which were not nominated, but were deemed by the Toronto Theatre Awards to be deserving of recognition. This could be due to lack of awards category, eligbility or any other reason. The Toronto Theatre Awards chose to bestow Speical Recognition to two productions: Stratford Festival's high energy, crowd pleasing, production of Something Rotten!; and the radical adaptation of Rumi's Masnavi, The Caged Bird Sings, a Modern Times Stage Company production in association with the Aga Khan Museum and Theatre ARTaud.
